D.I.Y - Do It Yourself

Maintain Your Carpets, Furniture and Tile Floors

Clean homes are great to live in, aren't they?

Most of us would agree that one of the best reasons to clean is to help our homes and workplaces feel comfortable. Getting things clean can help relieve stress, eliminate distractions, and encourage well-being.

Here's another benefit: maintaining a clean environment--specifically carpets, flooring and upholstery--can protect your investments in those items.

First of all, new carpet warranties may specify that regular cleaning must take place. Just as important, though, is the fact that regular maintenance actually helps carpets, flooring and upholstery last longer.

In order to understand why this is true, consider that carpets and upholstery are made of fibers. When dirt gets trapped between or among those fibers, it rubs on them, wearing them down. By getting the dirt out with frequent vacuuming, emergency spot removal, and regularly scheduled professional cleaning, there's less wear on carpet and upholstery fibers--and more product life during which those materials look great, too.

Similarly, for flooring, regular cleaning not only helps reduce wear on tiles, but also helps avoid stains that can be much more difficult to remove later.

Maintain Your Carpet

To help your carpets last as long as possible, vacuum often, do spot cleaning wisely, and schedule professional cleaning regularly.

  • Depending on how much traffic your carpet sees, vacuum at least once a week--or more often if necessary.
  • To remove a small stain, use a solution made up of ¼ teaspoon of original Dawn® dishwashing liquid diluted in 32 oz. of water.  Use a terry towel or microfiber cloth to blot the spot--don’t soak the carpet too much--and then follow up by blotting with a mixture of one part water and one part white vinegar to remove residue.
  • Schedule regular professional cleanings that include deep soil extraction with hot water. AmeriClean can set up a schedule that suits your needs.

Maintain Your Upholstery

Fabrics vary, but basic care can go a long way to helping your furniture look good for years to come.

  • Vacuum upholstery approximately once a week.
  • Make sure new furniture includes Scotchgard™ protection to resist soil, stains, and wear, and have a professional reapply Scotchgard™ on a regular basis.
  • Get upholstery professionally cleaned before it shows any dirt--once dirt starts to show, damage has already begun.

Maintain Your Floors: Tile & Grout

AmeriClean customers have found that professionals can make tile and grout look better than they'd ever expect--but careful maintenance helps ensure that your investment goes further than it will if dirt builds up.

  • Wash tile and grout regularly.
  • Mop up spills as soon as possible to avoid staining.
  • Schedule professional steam cleanings to lift dirt out of grout and make your floors look new.

Maintaining your carpets, upholstery, and floors makes good sense in every home and office. You'll enjoy a comfortable place to live and work; you'll also protect your investments.
