In honor of AmeriClean’s 25th anniversary, we’re going back to what was once the future…1984. In that year, all of the following were true:

  • The Grammy award-winning Album of the Year was Michael Jackson’s Thriller. Jackson also won seven other Grammies that year, breaking all previous records.
  • In June, the average price for a gallon of unleaded gas in the US was $1.19.
  • Super Bowl XVIII: The Los Angeles Raiders defeated the Washington Redskins 38-9 at Tampa Stadium in Tampa, FL.
  • Apple introduced the Macintosh computer.
  • The average price of a new U.S. single-family house topped $101,000 in May, crossing the six-figure mark for the first time.
  • Astronauts Bruce McCandless II and Robert L. Stewart made the first untethered space walk.
  • Richard Petty won his 200th career NASCAR victory at the Firecracker 400 in Daytona Beach, FL.
  • Trivial Pursuit revived the board-game industry. Developed by a Canadian entrepreneur, the game was introduced in U.S. stores and had sales of $777 million during 1984.
  • Beverly Lynn Burns became the first woman Boeing 747 captain in the world.
  • Chrysler introduced America to the Minivan.
  • The 1984 Summer Olympics were held in Los Angeles, CA.
  • Mass marketing of cellular phones to the general public began.
  • Median U.S. household income was $22,415.
  • World Series: The Detroit Tigers defeated the San Diego Padres to win in five games.
  • Dell Computers was founded as PC’s Limited. The first Dell computer was sold out of a dorm room.
  • The Dow Jones Industrial Average opened the year at 1252.74 and closed at 1211.57.
  • Clara Peller was featured in the “Where’s the Beef?” commercial campaign for Wendy’s for the first time.
  • The first infomercials appeared on TV.
  • Mandy Moore, singer and actress was born on April 10th.
  • American singer, Marvin Gaye, died April 1 at the age of 44.
